Thursday, April 27, 2006 - FINATERI & RIEHL NAMED ACHA DIII ALL-AMERICAN - SECOND TEAM!
Senior Forward, Vincent Finateri, will go into the record books as one of the best hockey players in Northwood history. After a record breaking year, leading his team to the National Championship Game, Finateri was named DIII ALL-AMERICAN Forward - 2nd Team by the
American Collegiate Hockey Association. Northwood's leading goaltender, Joe Riehl, was named DIII ALL-AMERICAN Goaltender - 2nd Team. Junior Defenseman, Tyler Soulliere, received DIII ALL-AMERICAN - Honorable Mention. Soulliere finished the season with 14 goals and 33 points. Finateri led the team with 26 goals and 47 points. Riehl finished the season with a 3.49 GAA. Congratulations!

Thursday, April 27, 2006 - COACH MIKE VEZINA NAMED ACHA DIII COACH OF THE YEAR!
Head Coach, Mike Vezina, was named DIII COACH OF THE YEAR by the
American Collegiate Hockey Association, Thursday Night. Coach Vezina, and his young team, started the season 2-6-1. Who would have thought these same guys would be competing for the National Championship game? Well, after that rocky start, Northwood went 17-3-2 ending up at the DIII ACHA National Championship Game in Fort Myers, FL. Congratulations on an amazing season! Good Luck next year!

Saturday, March 4th, 2006 - ACHA DIII NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
Vincent FinateriFORT MYERS, FL - Northwood University Senior, Vincent Finateri and Sophomore, Joe Riehl were named to the First Team 2006 ACHA DIII National All-Tournament Team. Finateri is one, of only three forwards in the tournament, to receive this honor. Riehl was the only goalie, in the 16 team tournament, to be named 'All-Tournament Goalie'.

Saturday, March 4th, 2006 - ACHA DIII NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
FORT MYERS, FL - Today #8 Northwood University faced off against #2 Wright State University for the ACHA DIII National Championship. Unfortunately the Timberwolves fell short by just one goal. Wright State defeated Northwood, 4-3, in a hard fought game. The Northwood University Timberwolves finish the 2005-06 season as the #2 team in the Nation. Good job to all of the teams who participated in the National Tournament this year and we are looking forward to next season.

Joe RiehlFORT MYERS, FL - The Northwood University Timberwolves are going to the 2006 ACHA DIII National Championship Game! The Timberwolves defeated #5 Calvin College tonight, 4-3. Northwood advances to the Championship Game tomorrow at 12:15pm. #2 Wright State defeated #3 Penn State - Berks tonight and will take on Northwood tomorrow in the Championship game.

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006 - ACHA DIII NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
FORT MYERS, FL - Northwood knocked out Florida Gulf Coast University tonight, 8-3. The Timberwolves will advance to the Semi-finals where they will take on Calvin College, tomorrow at 5:15pm. #2 Wright State will face off against #3 PSU-Berks tomorrow at 5:00pm. The winners of these two games will play for the ACHA DIII National Championship, on Saturday at 12:15pm.

Wednesday, March 1st, 2006 - ACHA DIII NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
FORT MYERS, FL - NU defeats #9 Loyola College in the First Round of action at the 2006 DIII National Tournament. The game was tied at the end of regulation, 3-3. Both teams were held scoreless in the sudden death overtime period, so a shootout took place. Northwood came out on top after the shootout and will advance to round 2 as the winner. #16 Florida Gulf Coast defeated #1 University of Colorado today, and will play Northwood tomorrow at 4:00pm.

Tuesday, February 14th, 2006 - NU RANKED #8 IN THE NATION!
MIDLAND, MI - The Northwood University Hockey Team has been ranked #8 in the Nation! Northwood will be taking on #9 Loyola College in round one of the ACHA DIII National Tournament. On day two, the Timberwolves will play #1 University of Colorado or #16 Florida Gulf Coast University. For the first round match-ups, check out the ACHA DIII website. Monday, February 13th, 2006
MIDLAND, MI - Northwood finished the regular season, Saturday night, against Calvin College. Both teams were neck & neck most of the game. Northwood headed to the locker room down 1-0 after the first period. The Timberwolves put up a fight in the second period with a goal by Matt Jarvis. Calvin began the third period ahead 2-1. Calvin extended their lead, about half way through the final period, to 3-1. A goal by Calvin, late in the third, sealed the deal. Northwood loses a well fought game to #2 Calvin College. Northwood traveled to Jackson, MI the night before, beating Albion College 13-1.

Friday, February 10th, 2006 - TIMBERWOLVES ARE GOING TO NATIONALS!
MIDLAND, MI - The Northwood University Hockey Team have earned the #3 spot in the North Region. The ACHA has just announced the FINAL REGIONAL RANKINGS of the season. Today, the Timberwolves accepted an invitation to represent the North Region in the 2006 ACHA DIII National Championship. The North Region will also be represented by #1 Wright State University, #2 Calvin College, and #4 Hope College. This will be Northwood's first trip to the ACHA DIII National Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers, FL, March 1 - 4. We will post the ACHA DIII National Rankings, here, as soon as the votes are tallied.

Thursday, February 9th, 2006
MIDLAND, MI - The Timberwolves added another win last Saturday against #2 Hope College. This was their 3rd meeting this season. Northwood defeated Hope (6-2) on December 3rd. They were matched up in the Championship Game of the Great North Invitational the very next week. The game officially ended in a tie after one (five minute) overtime (3-3). But with the Trophy on the line, they continued. Northwood finally scored in the 3rd overtime to win the Tournament. Last Saturday, Northwood proved that they deserve to represent the North Region in the National Tournament, by defeating Hope College (5-4). Mike Morley tallied two goals in the win.

Northwood will travel to Jackson, MI to take on Albion College, Friday night. The Timberwolves will finish the weekend & the regular season at home, Saturday evening. Northwood will host Calvin College at 7:00pm.

Northwood has earned the #2 spot in the MCHC! The MCHC League Tournament schedule has been set (MCHC Tourney Schedule). Northwood will have a bye next Thursday, and will take on the highest remaining seed, out of (#3 Hope vs. #6 Oakland & #4 Lansing vs. #5 Lawrence Tech), next Friday at 8:30pm. #1 Calvin College, who also has a bye, will go up against the lowest remaining seed of Thursday's games. The League Tournament will take place, here in Midland, MI, at the New Midland Civic Ice Arena.

Sunday, January 29th, 2006
MIDLAND, MI - The Timberwolves took on Oakland University, last night, at the Midland Civic Arena. Northwood struggled in the first and finished the period tied up at 1 all. Oakland scored the only goal in the second period leaving Northwood trailing by 1 goal. After an energetic speech by Coach Vezina during the second intermission, Northwood came out strong in the final period. The Timberwolves added 3 more goals in the third and defeated Oakland 4-2.

Northwood will take on #2 Hope College on Saturday. Come out and cheer on the Timberwolves as they make a run at Nationals. Game time is at 7:00 PM at the New Midland Civic Arena.

Sunday, January 22nd, 2006
TROY, MI - After a 4th place finish at the Gulf Coast Clash last weekend, Northwood set their sites on Oakland University. Northwood came out strong, last night, with a 4-0 lead going into the second. Both teams were held to only two goals a piece in the second period. Oakland fought back in the third, outscoring Northwood 3-2. But it was too late, Northwood wins 8-5. Northwood will face off against Oakland next Saturday at Home.

ACHA DIII RANKINGS - The ACHA DIII Rankings came out this week. Northwood jumped up to 4th place in the North Region, after an impressive 4th place finish at the Gulf Coast Clash. Northwood has 4 more games left in the Regular Season. If the Timberwolves hold on to their 4th place spot, they will be heading to Estero, FL again, for the ACHA DIII National Championship. Come out to the Midland Civic Arena and cheer on the Northwood Timberwolves on Saturday, Jan. 28th; Saturday, Feb. 4th; and Saturday, Feb 11th. These are the last three Home games, so don't miss it!! All Home games start at 7:00pm at the Midland Civic Arena.

Sunday, January 15th, 2006 - GULF COAST CLASH
ESTERO, FL - Today was the final day of the Gulf Coast Clash. Northwood fought for 3rd place this morning against the host team, Florida Gulf Coast University. Florida Gulf Coast won the Seth Schupan Memorial Earlybird Tournament back in October. Northwood and Florida Gulf Coast have only met on the ice once before. Last season Northwood defeated FGCU in the ACHA DIII Showcase Tournament in Rochester, NY, 7-1. Today, Florida Gulf Coast came out on top. Northwood ends the weekend with a 4th place finish after a 4-6 loss to FGCU. Kennesaw State defeated Florida Atlantic in the Championship Game. The Timberwolves head back to Michigan with a 11-8-2 record. NU will take on Oakland University on Saturday. If you are in the Detroit Area, come and cheer on the Timberwolves. The game starts at 6:00pm at the Troy Sports Center.

Saturday, January 14th, 2006 - GULF COAST CLASH
ESTERO, FL - Northwood ended their 10 game unbeaten streak tonight against a tough Florida Atlantic University Hockey Team. The Timberwolves will take on Florida Gulf Coast University at 10:30am. Northwood will compete for 3rd place in the Gulf Coast Clash. Vincent Finateri, Andrew Dague, Jay Knapp, and Mike Morley scored Northwood's goals tonight.

Friday, January 13th, 2006 - GULF COAST CLASH
ESTERO, FL - The Timberwolves headed down to Florida this morning to compete in the Gulf Coast Clash, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. Tonight they took on the #5 team in the North Region, Middle Tennessee State University. Northwood started the game with a goal on their second shift and never looked back. Northwood lead after the first period with a score of 4-1. The Timberwolves shut out Middle Tennessee in the second period while scoring 5 goals. The Timberwolves defeat Middle Tennessee, 11-2, to advance to the semi finals tomorrow against Florida Atlantic. Tom Law & Jason Schafer scored their first goals of the year tonight. Northwood will take on FAU tomorrow at 6:00pm. The winner of tomorrow's game will head to the championship game on Sunday against the winner of Kennesaw & FGCU. Wednesday, January 11th, 2006 - SPAGHETTI DINNER
MIDLAND, MI - The Northwood University Hockey Team will host an "All You Can Eat" Spaghetti Dinner tonight at the American Legion Hall. The Cost is $5 for adults, $4 for Children 7-12, and Children under 6 eat free! The Dinner will start at 5:30pm. Come and support your Northwood Hockey Team!

Saturday, January 7th, 2006 - ALL-STAR GAME PICTURES
MIDLAND, MI - Today, some of the best players in the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference came to Midland, MI to play in the 6th Annual MCHC All-Star Game & Skills Competition. Northwood University was represented by six outstanding players; Billy Mault, Tyler Soulliere, Vincent Finateri, Jeff Ducharme, Mike Morley, and Joe Riehl. Northwood, Oakland University, Lawrence Tech University, and Calvin College (split) represented the East while Lansing CC, Hope College, Muskegon CC, and Calvin College (split) represented the West. MCHC-West won the skills competition 8-5. The skills competition included Speed Skating, Breakaway, Hardest Shot, 3-0, Shooting Accuracy, and Rapid Fire. After the skills competition, the score remained on the board and the MCHC West vs. East All-Star Game started. Northwood & the rest of the MCHC East came back from an 3 point deficit, to tie it up late in the third periodof the All-Star Game. The East All-Stars kept it going until the end of the game and finished with the win. Final score MCHC-East All-Stars 15, MCHC-West All-Stars 13. Congratulations to all of the players who participated in this year's All-Star Game.

MIDLAND, MI - The Timberwolves end 2005 with a 9 game unbeaten streak. Northwood defeated Alpena Community College Saturday night at the Midland Civic Arena. Northwood outscored Alpena CC 10-3 in their victory. Drew Baldino finished the night with a hat-trick. Andrew Dague scored 2 goals and 2 assists. Click Here to see a video clip!

Northwood will start off the New Year in Estero, FL at the Gulf Coast Clash, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast University. Northwood will take on Middle Tennessee State University in the first round on January 13th, 2006. Middle Tennessee State is ranked #5 in the North Region. Northwood will play University of Tennessee or Florida Atlantic University in the second round on Saturday, January 14th, 2006. Come to Florida to cheer on your Northwood Timberwolves in January... and enjoy the weather!!

Midland will host the MCHC All-Star game at the Midland Civic Arena on Saturday, January 7th, 2006 at 12:30pm. Come and enjoy a fun filled day of skills competitions and a great hockey game, featuring the best hockey players the MCHC has to offer!

MUSKEGON, MI - Northwood tacks on another (W) last night against Muskegon CC. The 10:00pm game didn't get started until 10:45pm. After the delay, Northwood hit the ice fired up. Tyler Soulliere scored a hat-trick in the 9-4 win over MCC. Vincent Finateri & Joel Sepetance added two goals a piece while Mike Morley put one in the net and assisted on two more. Jay Knapp finished the night with three assists. Northwood takes on Alpena CC tonight at Home. The game sarts at 7:00pm at the Midland Civic Arena. Come cheer on your Northwood Timberwolves Tonight for their last game of 2005! NU will be on Christmas Break until January 3rd, 2006. Northwood will be back in action on January 13th at the Gulf Coast Clash, hosted Florida Gulf Coast University.

MIDLAND, MI - Thank you for being so patient the past few weeks. I have been updating the website with scores as fast as I can. Sorry, I haven't had much time to update the NEWS section. So I will recap the past few weeks, which have been spectacular!

-- December 9-10th - Northwood beat LSSU 8-4 on Friday to advance to the Championship game of the Great Lakes Invitational, hosted by Ferris State. The Tournament was held in Kalkaska, MI. Northwood took on #2 Hope College in the Championship game. Both teams were tied up, 3-3, after the first overtime, so the game officially ended in a tie... but to decide who would take home the first place hardware, overtime continued. During the third overtime, Northwood scored to win the Tournament! The Timberwolves are unbeaten in the last seven games!!!

-- December 2-3rd - The Timberwolves started the weekend at home against Kalamazoo College on Friday Night. Northwood won with a score of 12-2. Northwood then traveled to play #2 Hope College on Saturday Night. The Timberwolves played an excellent game and beat the #2 team in the North, 6-2!!

MIDLAND, MI - The Northwood Hockey Team finished the weekend with two wins. The Timberwolves started the weekend in Alpena, MI on Friday Night as they took on Alpena Community College. This is Alpena's first year in the MCHC. Mike Morley scored two goals in the 5-2 win over Alpena CC. Northwood finished the weekend at home against Lansing CC on Saturday Night. Lansing CC and Northwood met two weeks ago in Lansing, MI. Lansing CC beat Northwood in the final seconds of the game 5-4. This weekend was a different story. Northwood soundly beat Lansing CC, 4-0, with a great effort by Joe Riehl between the pipes. Andrew Dague finished the night with one goal and an assist on Mike Morley's third goal of the weekend. We would like to thank all the parents who attended Saturday's game and the reception afterwards.

Northwood University is on Thanksgiving Break and will not play this weekend. Northwood will host Kalamazoo College next Friday at 6:30pm. The Timberwolves will finish the weekend on the road against #2 Hope College on Saturday.

Thursday, November 17th, 2005 - UPDATES
- Saturday is PARENT'S NIGHT! After Saturday's game against Lansing CC we will be having a reception at the American Legion Hall. All parents are encouraged to attend and we will be serving food and drinks. This will allow the parents to become acquainted with Northwood Hockey.

MIDLAND, MI - The Northwood University Hockey Team took on Lawrence Tech last night for the second game in a row. Lawrence Tech came out on top last week in overtime (5-4). The Timberwolves were the victors last night with a score of (3-2). Tyler Soulliere, Jeff Ducharme, and Billy Mault scored one goal a piece. Joe Rheil had 18 saves between the pipes. Northwood will travel up to Alpena next Friday and then finish the weekend at home on Saturday against Lansing CC. Saturday is PARENT'S NIGHT! MIDLAND, MI - The Timberwolves lose a close one to Central Michigan University (D2) last night. Northwood didn't come out as strong as last weekend, spotting CMU a three goal lead in the first period. CMU scored first in the second period, giving them a four goal lead. The Timberwolves got on the board with a trio of goals by Joel Sepetance, cutting CMU's lead to 4-3. CMU came back with one more goal extending their lead to 5-3. Andrew Dague made it a one goal game when he put one in the net at the end of the second period. Both teams were held scoreless in the final period. Final score, 4-5. Northwood hits the road Tomorrow for a two game weekend. NU plays Lansing CC at The Summit on Friday night, 8:15 PM. The Timberwolves will finish the weekend in Southfield on Saturday night as they take on Lawrence Tech at 7:00 PM.

MIDLAND,MI - Northwood showed up to play some hockey tonight as they took on Muskegon CC. Muskegon CC beat Northwood last Saturday in the Seth Schupan Memorial Early Bird Tournament, 2-5. After a rocky weekend last week, Northwood finally played as a team tonight to defeat Muskegon CC, 9-1. "The players finally came together and played as a team Tonight," says Coach Vezina. Vincent Finateri, Billy Mault, and Andrew VanOvermeer scored two goals a piece for the Timberwolves. Jeff Ducharme, Chris Czeszewski, and Tyler Soulliere tallied one goal each for the win. Northwood will face off against Central Michigan University (D2) Wednesday night at the Midland Civic Arena. The game starts at 7:00 PM. The Timberwolves will finish next week on the road as they take on Lansing CC on Friday night and Lawrence Tech on Saturday.

MIDLAND, MI - Yesterday Northwood took on Robert Morris for their second game of the Seth Schupan Memorial Early Bird Tournament. The game ended in a 3-3 tie, but Northwood came up short in the Tournament tie breaking shoot-out. That was not the only tie breaking shoot-out of the day. Three of the four games played yesterday, ended in a tie! IUP tied Muskegon 2-2 and Calvin tied Colorado. Colorado tied up the game with 0:01 left in the third period. After a scoreless overtime period, Colorado won the shoot-out and will advance to the Championship game. IUP came out on top in their shoot-out and will be playing Robert Morris today at 2:30pm. Northwood will play Muskegon at noon. FGCU defeated Hope last night, 6-1. FGCU will get a rematch with Colorado tonight at 7:30pm. In case you didn't know, Colorado came from behind to beat FGCU in overtime last year for the National Championship. Calvin will take on Hope tonight, for 3rd place, at 5:00pm. MIDLAND, MI - The Seth Schupan Memorial Early Bird Tournament is underway!!! Here is a quick summary of Thursday night's games: Northwood loses in the first round to the defending National Champs, Colorado. On the other rink, Calvin shut out Robert Morris, 10-0. The Timberwolves will take on Robert Morris Today at noon. Calving and Colorado will meet at 5:00pm this Afternoon. In the other bracket, Hope defeated IUP with a score of 9-2 and MCC is soundly beat by FGCU with a score of 11-3. Today after the Northwood game, IUP will take on MCC at 2:30pm while Hope and FGCU will match up at 7:00pm. MIDLAND, MI - It is here! The Seth Schupan Memorial Early Bird Tournament starts tonight when Northwood takes on the defending National Champs, University of Colorado. GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Northwood University Hockey loses a tough one to Calvin College last night. After spotting Calvin a three goal lead in the first, NU closed the gap to two goals, heading into the third period 4-2. But it wasn't enough, Northwood gave up three more goals in the third, bringing the final score to 7-3. Vincent Finateri, Chad Hands, and Jeff Ducharme tallied one goal a piece.

KALAMAZOO, MI - Nothwood starts the season with an impressive 15-2 win over Kalamazoo last night. Ten different NU players scored their 15 goals. Vincent Finateri (Senior) earned himself a hat-trick last night. Mike Morley, Joel Sepetance, & Matt Jarvis added two goals a piece while Jeff Ducharme, Billy Mault, Jay Knapp, Tyler Soulliere, Andrew Dague, & Drew Baldino contributed one goal each. Sophomore goaltender, Joe Riehl, started the game between the pipes and was unscored upon half-way through the game when Rookie goaltender, Andrew Schinkai, took over.

-- EARLYBIRD TOURNAMENT UPDATE! There will be a drawing at 8:00PM before the game tonight against Calvin College at The Jolly Roger Ice Club in Grand Rapids, MI. The drawing will reveal the match-ups for the first round of the Seth Schupan Memorial Early Bird Tournament. The Tournament will begin Thursday, October 20th at the NEW Midland Civic Arena in Midland, MI. A tournament schedule will be posted by tomorrow. KALAMAZOO, MI - Northwood Hockey will begin the 2005-06 season tonight at Wing's Stadium in Kalamazoo, MI. Northwood will face off against Kalamazoo College at 7:00 PM. The Timberwolves will finish their opening weekend against Calvin College tomorrow night at 9:00 PM. The game will be held at Calvin's home rink, The Jolly Roger, in Grand Rapids, MI. Northwood was scheduled to play St. Clair County Community College next weekend, but St. Clair has unfortunately canceled their season. NU coaches are trying their best to put something together for next weekend. Make sure to check the website often, for up-to-date information about Northwood University Hockey.
