2004-05 Season comes to an end, Northwood finishes 4th in the MCHC.
The Timberwolves played their last game of the season Saturday against Calvin College.  Even though we lost the game, we were happy with what we accomplished this season.  Northwood finished 17-9 this season and 4th in the MCHC.  On behalf of all the players and coaches, we want to thank all of the fans for supporting Northwood Hockey this season.

Timberwolves falls short again.
Northwood scored first Friday Night with a beautiful breakaway goal by Mark Pack.  A few minutes later, NU was shorthanded with a 5 on 3.  Hope scored their first goal to tie it up.  Less than a minute later Hope scored another powerplay goal.  Hope scored one more goal, late in the first, to end the first period up 3-1.  The second period was all Northwood.  The Timberwolves skated their hearts out to try and cut the two goal deficit, but it wasn't enough.  Both teams were held scoreless in the second.  Northwood played very well in the third, but Hope scored another powerplay goal to extend their lead to three.  Hope sealed the deal, with six minutes left in the game, with their fifth goal.  Northwood loses 5-1.  The Timberwolves take on Calvin College Saturday at 2:30pm for 3rd place.  Calvin lost to Lansing CC Friday Night in overtime, 6-5.  Lansing will take on Hope for the MCHC Championship tomorrow at 5:30pm.

Northwood advances with a win over Jackson CC!
The MCHC Tournament is underway.  Northwood and Jackson were all tied up at one goal a piece after the first period.  The Timberwolves started the second period strong with three quick goals to put Northwood up 4-1.  Jackson scored a goal late in the second to close the gap to two goals.  Northwood scored the first goal of the third period to bring the score to 5-2, but Jackson wouldn't give up.  Jackson proved strong in the third when they scored three late goals to tie it up.  Northwood was heading into their first overtime game all year, but it didn't last long.  Jared Rogers scored the game winning goal for Northwood.  The Timberwolves advance to play #1 Hope Friday at 6:00PM.  Lansing CC beat Muskegon CC Thursday.  Lansing will play Calvin Friday as well.

NU loses a close one to #1 Hope.
For Northwood's last game of the regular season they took on the #1 team in the Nation, Hope College.  The Timberwolves played a great first period.  It was tied up 0-0 until about one minute left when Hope scored their first goal.  Hope scored again halfway through the second period to make it 2-0.  Then Andrew Dague scored his first goal of the game two minutes later with assists by Vincent Finateri and Ryan Ess.  Both teams were held scoreless for the rest of the second period.  Hope scored their third goal two minutes into the third.  Andrew Dague scored his second goal with eight minutes left in the game to bring NU with in one goal of Hope.  After an exceptional game, Joe Riehl was pulled with a little over a minute left to give Northwood the extra attacker.  Hope sealed the deal with an empty net goal with less than a minute left in the game.  The Timberwolves proved strong against the #1 team in the Nation and they look forward to their first game of the MCHC Tournament against Jackson CC on Thursday.  Good Job Seniors!

Northwood tops SCCCC!
Northwood played a tough SCCCC team Friday.  NU came out with a one goal lead early in the first with a goal by Gregg Panski, but SCCCC fought back to tie it up at 1-1.  Mike Morley came back with a score to put the Timberwolves up 2-1 when St. Clair came back to tie it up 2-2.  Andrew Dague and Joel Sepetance put Northwood up 4-2 at the end of the first.  Northwood extended the lead to 5-2 with a goal by Drew Baldino.  But St. Clair fought back with two goals  cutting the lead to one.  With goals by Jeff Ducharme, Caleb Brown, and Mike Roberts, Northwood extended their lead to 8-4 at the end of the second.  SCCCC came back in the third with two goals, cutting NU's lead to two.  Then Ducharme, Panski, and Sepetance scored their second goals of the night to put Northwood at a 11-6 lead.  SCCCC scored a late goal in the third to end the game at 11-7.

Win streak comes to an end.
Northwood took on a tough Lansing team Saturday Night.  Lansing just came off two big wins over Calvin & Hope.  It was all tied up at 1-1 going into the second period when Lansing scored 3 unanswered goals.  We scored one more goal in the second to come within two going into the third.  But two goals by Lansing in the final period sealed the deal.  Northwood loses 6-2.  Ryan Ess & Mike Morley scored NU's goals.  After this tough loss, Northwood can now only look ahead to next weekend when they take on St. Clair County CC Friday.  Come out to Midland Civic Arena on Saturday as the Timberwolves play Hope College at 7:30pm.

NU wins 6th in a row!

NU slips by Oakland
The Timberwolves knew going into the game that, despite their record, Oakland would be a tough opponent.  Great passes by Mike Morley, Mark Pack, and Vincent Finateri allowed Andrew Dague, Ryan Ess, and Joel Sepetance to score Northwood's three goals in the first.  Oakland came back in the second with two goals, closing our lead to one.  Billy Mault extended NU's lead with a beautiful goal, but it didn't last.  Oakland came back with two more goals to tie it up 4-4.  Late in the second period, Ess scored his second goal of the game to allow Northwood a one goal lead going into the third.  Finateri was unstoppable in the third with two phenomenal goals.  Both goals were assisted by Jared Rogers and Dague.  The Timberwolves tally their fourth win in a row against a tough team, 7-5.
We would like to thank Northwood Alumni Bobby Mitchell, Larry Bsharah, Hank Simpson, and Greg Rancilio for making it to the game.  And a special thanks to Bobby & Larry for bringing their mini-mite teams to watch us play.  We hope they had a great time and look forward to seeing them at more games!  We wish you the best of luck on the rest of your season.  Thanks again for supporting Northwood Hockey.

Timberwolves start the New Year with a Win!
Northwood edges past #7 Jackson CC, Friday Night, in a very physical game.  It looked as if NU had the game in the books after ending the second period up 5-1.  But a three goal rush by Jackson CC, in the third, made the Timberwolves think twice.  Great defense in the closing minutes of the game allowed NU to seal the deal with a score of 5-4.  Mike Morley scored two goals Friday, adding to his already impressive stats.  Also scoring for Northwood was Mark Pack, Tyler Soulliere, and Vincent Finateri.  Andrew Dague, Finateri, Soulliere, Greg Smith, Gregg Panski, and Tyler Oberhelman all contributed with one assist a piece.  Joe Riehl earned the win between the pipes.  Our next game is at Oakland on Friday, January 21st.

All-Star game is a success (pictures)
Congratulations to all of the players who participated in the MCHC All-Star Game.  Everything ran smoothly.  Gregg Panski, Vincent Finateri, Jared Rogers, Ryan Ess, Tyler Soulliere, and Joe Riehl represented the Timberwolves very well.  Even though we (East) lost, everyone who participated had a great time.  Ryan Ess tallied an assist on our only goal, while Gregg Panski received third place honors for hardest shot in skills competition.  This week the Timberwolves turn their attention to Mid-Terms and Jackson CC.  Northwood will take on Jackson CC Friday night at 8:30pm.  The game will be held at Optimist Arena in Jackson, MI.
